Brogan Grant, a Jacobite soldier and bastard son of the Chief, fought savagely on the battlefield, and barely escaped capture. On the run for his life, Brogan comes across what he thinks is a spy—a very bonny lass disguised as a lad, who happens to be the daughter of his clan’s enemy. He admires her bravery, but he knows what can happen to a woman alone in a war-ravaged land.

Lady Fiona MacBean is determined to do her part to ensure there is a Scottish king. Disguised as a healer, she delivers coded messages to rebels throughout the Highlands. There’s only one thing impeding her mission—a striking Highlander who’s determined to send her home.

Unfortunately, Fiona will not be deterred. Left with little choice, Brogan agrees to join her mission if she agrees to return home after. Now the two must work together and risk everything to save the life of Bonnie Prince Charlie himself. If only their hearts weren’t at risk as well…

****My Review ****

Historical, romantic, adventurous … Eliza Knight’s You’ve Got Plaid is a great snack for all lovers of historical fiction, which, supported by many facts and real events, tells about the strength of a woman, virtuous men, strong passionate feelings, and love as a cure for all wounds…
We meet her as a young girl, our heroine, who becomes a woman who is ready to risk her skin, her life, everything that will be needed, just to be able to feel freedom ….. She is called the Phantom because of her ability to appear out of nowhere. Life gave her everything, beauty and incredible wit, resourcefulness, and power to understand others, to convince, to escape …. She also know how to love deeply, to desire, to hope, but there was no one …. until he appeared, the powerful warrior who with one look arouses sinful thoughts and makes her speak her truths… Two enemies by clan, now allies…. He fought against the unwanted feelings, she fought as well…. but each hug offers salvation and security, which attracts more and more … Each kiss offers hope and fear ….. But can they hope for everlasting love? At a time when everything around is devastated, at a time when a father turns against his son, brother against brother, at a time of war ……
Fiona’s character captivates from an early age with her appearance and great character traits, and although we do not always agree with her decisions and actions, she simply manages to win us over. I have to admit I hated her stubbornness and unbending character. Clever and brave, she manages to fight for her place in that male world. Being a royal messenger in those times is not at all simple, but she manages to shine, changing roles and prospects as needed …..
Brogan Grant, the powerful warrior marked by his past, the bastard son who must fight for his place, is a character who fully fits the stereotype of a man at the time. Convinced that womens’ place is at home, he poses a problem for our heroine, who tries to persevere in her role. But at the same time, I am amazed by his patience and understanding, his dedication and care. He was portrayed as a born leader, but I couldn’t sense that trait. The fierce soldier with a touch that caresses and heals is a swoon-worthy hero…
And the connection between them simply can not be ignored, whether they are arguing, ignoring each other, teasing, or burning in passion … the connection feels almost plausible and explosive. With some really hot scenes, this book definitely won’t disappoint you.
I also have to say what amazes me is the way the author dealt with the historical data in the novel, as well as the depth of the research done, making it difficult for readers to understand what is fiction and what is truth. Her writing style is so rich and descriptive, interesting, full of intelligent dialogues with a perfect dose of humor. The plot is quite solid and perfectly paced, not a moment of boredom in the whole book.
Partly historical novel, partly espionage, partly romance ….. completely gripping story that will leave you panting for more. With amazing storytelling, love mixed with historical events from the war, memories, sadness, and hope, but also a mystery, which forces you to turn the pages, eagerly awaiting to find out what happens next, this book is excellent for every history-romance reader.
