Ice Cold by Tess Gerritsen

The Rizzoli and Isles series is more than a solid choice for a great read, especially for people who enjoy a little mystery thriller with inserted elements from the everyday life of the greatly portrayed characters. Each book is a story in itself. They can be read as a whole, as a series or as a stand-alone books. But Geritsen really managed to outdo herself with this one.

While I was reading the book, I somehow couldn’t get rid of the feeling that somehow the action was gradually developing: the beginning was quite mild, weak and moving towards a strong end. Of course, it starts a little on the slow side – but grab a deep breath because sometime in the first quarter of the book it becomes amazing.

The story takes place in the US state of Wyoming, where Boston medical expert Dr. Maura Isles is headed to a pathologists’ conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. As she is about to depart she finds herself at a crossroads in her relationship with Fr. Daniel Brophy. Longing for change and a little respite from the love problems with the Brody, she agrees to embark on their snow adventure, which will be abruptly interrupted the moment they realize that they are lost somewhere. In all this confusion, they unknowingly enter the forbidden territory of the small religious community called the “Kingdom of Heaven” where all the inhabitants seem to have perished in the earth and their houses and their own things remain untouched. After the unsuccessful attempt to return home again, their friend is injured and they remain in the abandoned village, without contact with the outside world, feeling that someone is constantly demining them … This is just a part, I don’t want to reveal further, you will have to read it yourselves.

The writing style is great, easy to read and quickly swallows the pages, no unnecessary hassle with very extensive details. In conclusion – I liked the book, it has interesting details and the story is mysterious, compared to other books it is a bit fun, and certainly worth it to finish. If are a fan of Tess Gerritsen or you want to relax while reading a nice thriller, than this book should definitely be on your to-read list.
